The important application of surgical spirit is to disinfect small cuts and for sterilising and hardening the skin. Surgical spirit can also used as household cleansing agent.
Surgical spirit works against bacteria, virus and fungus. Because the alcohol is able to cross the bacterial cell wall, destroy the cell membrane and reaches the interior of the bacteria and finally effects the cellular metabolism of organism. Due to this reason surgical spirit is used as antiseptic liquid.
